A selection of personalized laptop fronts from the Mozillafest crowd.

Yesterday we hosted the Design Challenge Visualizing the Viral Impact of Creative Commons Content at the Mozilla Festival in London. The aim was to design a paper-prototype and initial code towards a tool capable of visualizing the re-publication and social media sharing of a piece of Creative Commons content across multiple locations on the web and over time.

We were joined by around 20 coders, expert users and data visualizers, and were able to develop initial ‘user experience’ wireframes, and to demonstrate the feasibility of gathering the data from existing sources such as Google, Twitter and Facebook. See code developed by Max Ogden during the session for scraping search-by-image results from Google, expect Twitter code soon from Daoud Clarke, and check out previous code by Cole Gillespie.
